Explore the elements photo challenge

Thursday Tidbits: Explore The Elements

Staring at an empty new post screen with few good ideas, I got excited when I saw I was nominated for the #ExploreTheElements photoblogging challenge / competition by Wise Monkeys Abroad. The rules are pretty simple: you post a picture representing each of the four elements (water, earth, fire, air), then tag five blogger pals. If you’re lucky, you could win some awesome prizes, so fingers crossed for that! 🙂

Here are my interpretations of the four elements…

1. Earth Represents the hard, solid objects of the earth. Associated with stubbornness, collectiveness , physicality and gravity

I took this photo at the Botanical Garden in Lisbon, which was difficult to find and a little underwhelming, but a nice place if you want some peace and quiet. Usually, in botanical gardens you see pretty flowers and interesting plants, but I find it rather funny how my favorite photo I took is one of these pointy thorns.

2. Water represents the fluid, flowing, formless things in the world. Associated with emotion, defensiveness, adaptability, flexibility, suppleness and magnetism.

The beaches of Algarve in Portugal are famous for their breathtaking landscapes with interesting formations and the water of the Atlantic Ocean is perfect for cooling off on a hot day. You can swim, surf or just float in the water and start feeling revived.

3. Fire – represents the energetic, forceful, moving things in the world. Associated with security, motivation, desire, intention and an outgoing spirit.

People enjoying the fireworks in Paris on Bastille Day. After a long day of mishaps it was nice to be treated to a wonderful show in the sky.

4. Air – Represents things that grow, expand, and enjoy freedom of movement Associated with will, elusiveness, evasiveness, benevolence, compassion, and wisdom

Photo of the Kragstotten statue in Oslo overlooking the fjord and the whole city

I admit, I changed my mind a lot when it came to the picture for air, but in the end I went with the Kragstotten statue that overlooks the whole city of Oslo, Norway from Nordmarka (one of the forests surrounding the city), because up there you can feel like you’re in the sky looking down at the beautiful city.

And now for my nominees. Which are six instead of five. Because I can. 😛

How do you see each element? I’d love to hear from you.
