While falling in love with Bologna was a happy “accident” caused by cheap Wizz Air tickets, the main destination for the extended weekend I spent in Italy was Milan, for an Ellie Goulding concert (more on this soon). The country’s most modern city, Milan is best explored without a map, as my favorite moment was wandering on its beautiful streets on a sunny day, without a plan in mind. Milan felt like a whole different world from Bologna and some streets reminded me of Spain (which is always a good thing!), so naturally I had a great time and wanted to show you a few photos that will inspire you to visit it as soon as possible.
I decided not to start with Milan’s most iconic sight, but with my favorite photo from Milan – the beautiful Sforzesco Castle.Behind the Sforzesco Castle there is a huge park called Sempione, perfect for relaxing, or, if you’re a kid, running around 😉The impressive Milan Duomo is the perfect place to start exploring the city. That was something a lot of people have thought because I haven’t seen crowds like that anywhere else in the city.The interior of the Duomo felt a bit underwhelming, or maybe I had different expectations after seeing the huge cathedral in Seville.This colorful street was a totally unexpected find, but I loved it!I wanted to visit the colorful district of Navigli, picturing us stopping for a gelato on the banks of an Amsterdam-looking canal. Instead I found a couple of canals with barely any water with no open shops. Awkward.If you’re going to shop in Milan, The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is the best place to do it. Or, you know, take some photos and then shop in one of the more affordable stores down the street 😉I definitely did the latter!This ballerina was in the window of a building in Piazza del Duomo and I came back to see her in the evening as well because I really think she stole the show in that square.At that point, I thought I took a wrong turn and ended up in Lisbon, because that building totally looked like it could belong there.
Bonus picture! Just because you can’t have a post on Italy without a photo of gelato. It is the law! 😉 Besides, if the photos above haven’t convinced you to visit Milan,then this is my secret weapon!
